Performance Monitor (PM)

-
Serial-
Model / hardware / firmware-
Upgrading your PM3 firmware is highly recommended. This monitor runs software version -, older than version -. Download Concept2 Utility on a computer, plug the PM3 into it over USB and follow the update prompt.

Heart rate sensor

-
Pair a heart rate strap to send it to the PM3 and connected apps. Plug the 3.5mm headphone connector into the PM3 and it should display it automatically. See the wiring guide for how to build that connector.
Paired sensor None

Strava

-
Upload finished workouts to Strava - automatically as they happen, or one at a time from the Workouts tab.

Concept2 Logbook

-
Upload finished workouts to your Concept2 Logbook - automatically as they happen, or one at a time from the Workouts tab.

ANT+ broadcasting

-
Broadcasts rowing data over ANT+ for watches that pair to it as a Fitness Equipment sensor, same as pairing to a real rowing machine. Needs a spare ANT+ USB stick plugged into the same hub as the PM3, and a free ANT+ network key. This key is only for broadcasting - the Heart rate sensor card's ANT+ source uses the same stick to receive from a strap without needing this key at all. Learn more
Network key Not set
Broadcast rowing data over ANT+
Turn off if you only want ANT+ heart rate reception and don't want this device visible to ANT+ watches as a rowing machine.

PM Connector Hardware

This device is low on memory. Uploads to Strava and the Concept2 Logbook, and this page itself, may start failing or timing out. Restarting the device clears it. Your stored workouts are not affected.

Workout saving

Save workouts to our internal memory
When on, workouts are saved and will display on the Workouts tab. Insert a flash drive to upload it to a flash drive and use Concept2 Utility to upload it to the logbook.
Minimum workout size to save
A finished workout is only saved if it reaches EITHER minimum below. Set either to 0 to ignore it, or both to 0 to save every workout regardless of size.
Record force curve
Stores the average shape of your drive with each workout, so you can see it in the workout detail. Reduces how many workouts fit in long-term storage by about 11%.

PM3 power

The PM3 never sleeps on its own while we are supplying it USB power. Only cutting that power lets it fall back to its own battery-powered sleep. You can also put it to sleep yourself any time by pressing the PM3's menu button three times quickly, regardless of this setting.
Automatically put the PM3 to sleep
Cuts USB power after 11 minutes of no rowing. The PM3 then falls asleep on its own a few minutes after that, about 15 minutes total. USB power comes back automatically the moment you connect with a Bluetooth rowing app, or if you restart this device, so this is safe to leave on if that is how you normally use it (most people). If you row without a Bluetooth app, for example ANT+ only, waking the PM3 back up needs either the optional tip-wake sense circuit below, or pressing the PM3's power button yourself and then restarting this device. Default on.
Both putting the PM3 to sleep and detecting when it wakes back up on its own need extra hardware: a switch in the 5V supply wire, and a sense wire on the HR jack's tip contact. Both are optional, and neither is required to use this device. Wiring guide

Time and date

Monitor clock (last known)-
Internet time-
Internet time is what dates your workouts and sets the monitor's clock. If it and a connected app's clock are both unavailable - for example rowing outdoors - this device reads the time from the monitor itself instead, but only if it has learned the special authentication frame from it (see Authentication on the Device tab).
Setting the clock can briefly drop and re-enumerate the PM3's USB connection, so avoid this while a workout is programmed but not yet started. Skipped if the monitor's clock is already within a couple of minutes of correct - which needs that same authentication to check.
Automatically set PM3 clock
Set from internet time at startup, and again whenever ErgData connects. At startup, skipped if the monitor's clock is already within a couple of minutes of correct (same authentication needed as above); without it, every correction sets the clock outright, whether or not it needed to. Waits until the timezone below is confirmed. Never while rowing. Off by default because setting the clock briefly restarts the PM3's USB connection. This only controls what happens on its own - "Sync PM3 clock now" above works either way.
Timezone
Set from your browser the first time you open this page, or auto-detected when ErgData connects if we have internet time. Pick one here to set it yourself instead.

Logbook backup and export

Back up all workouts stored in internal memory or import a backup created by pm-connector.
Export backup
Export workouts in human readable format to use in your favourite spreadsheet app.
Download your workouts in the same format a USB stick plugged into this device would get, ready to import into the Concept2 Utility, without bringing a stick to the device. Unzip onto a FAT32-formatted USB stick, keeping the Concept2 folder at the top level, then insert it into a PC running the Concept2 Utility.

Diagnostics & Maintenance

Live logs from this device, useful for diagnosing a problem or reporting one. Open live logs
The LED on the device reports what it is doing - useful for telling at a glance whether it's rowing, asleep, saving a workout, or waiting on something. What the LED means
Restart the device. Any in-progress workout is not affected until the row is actually saved, but wait for it to finish first.
